About BazaarBuddy
BazaarBuddy is a personal shopping service for Indians living abroad. Someone in India walks into the shop, photographs what is on the shelf that day, and ships it to the customer's door. Sweets from a Pune halwai, a saree stitched to measure, a cricket bat, a tabla.
Aroha Ventures LLC is the company behind it, based in California, working with our sourcing partner in India. We are early, and the founding team sits across California and Pune.
About the internship
This role is for a student already studying marketing, mass communication, media or design. The work is hands-on. You will help run our live social channels, and you will see the results of your own decisions. You will be mentored closely, and you will be expected to bring judgement of your own.
We are active on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and WhatsApp. Our audience is Indians living abroad, mostly in the US and the UK, who miss things they cannot buy where they live. Your job is to reach more of them and give them something worth following.
You would work directly with the founding team in California and Pune, and have a say in what we publish and how we say it.
What you would work on
- Deciding what the next reel should be about, then helping produce it. This is the core of the role. There is a great deal to film in the markets we buy from, and we need someone with a good eye for what to capture.
- Planning and posting across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and WhatsApp, and replying to the people who respond.
- Writing captions and short copy in a natural, conversational voice.
- Telling us whether TikTok is worth being on, and building the case either way.
- Assessing how our posts and reels perform, and reporting back honestly, including when something you made did not work.
- Helping shape how we talk about ourselves as we grow.
What we are looking for
- An undergraduate student in marketing, mass communication, media, journalism, design or a related field. Students from other disciplines are welcome to apply.
- An active, informed user of these platforms who can explain why one piece of content performs and another does not.
- Clear writing in English. Hindi or Marathi is a plus for the India role.
- Comfortable working independently across time zones. Part of the team is in California and part is in Pune.
- Dependable. On a small team, follow-through matters.
Nice to have
- Experience running a digital marketing campaign of any kind. A college event, a fundraiser for a cause, a club, a family business, a personal project. Scale does not matter. We want to see that you have taken something from idea to posted to measured.
- Experience in communications or writing. A campus publication, a blog, a society newsletter, coursework you were proud of.
- An interest in strategy. Someone who can help work out what we should be saying and who we should be saying it to.
What you will gain
- Six months of hands-on experience running our live channels, with numbers attached.
- Work that goes out under the brand name and can go straight into your portfolio.
- Mentoring from a founder with thirty years in the technology industry, and from our India partner, who brings three decades in logistics.
- Direct access to the founding team, and a view of how an early-stage company works.
- Course credit where your college offers it. We are happy to work with your department on the paperwork.
- Based on performance, the opportunity to move into a paid internship with us.
To apply, email hiring@bazaar-buddy.com with a short note about yourself, your college and course, and one example of social content you admire and why.
Please include a link to something you have made yourself. A reel, a post, a campus campaign, a blog, a class project. It does not need to be polished or to have performed well. We need to see your work to assess you, so applications without a sample will not be considered.
