Chitra Phatak founded BazaarBuddy and runs it from San Francisco. She spent her career in technology and tech consulting, most recently building strategic partnerships at Amazon Web Services.
It started in Pune
She lived in Pune until she graduated as an engineer, and has gone back a couple of times a year ever since. In 2026, home after her mother's death, she met an old friend she had not seen in nearly thirty years. He runs his family's logistics business. They talked about what moves between India and everywhere else, and what doesn't.
Sixty-four days later BazaarBuddy was live: the site, the company, the payments, the customs work.
Why that matters to you
